Basic ski course for the “Taurinense”

(To Army Majority State)
29/02/24

As part of the basic training for the acquisition and development of the ability to move and fight in mountainous terrain, the "Taurinense" alpine brigade continued its activity in the mountains by organizing a basic skiing course for its personnel.

In the Via Lattea ski area, in the upper Val di Susa, the Alpine troops of the 1st Land Artillery Regiment (mountain) and the 32nd Sappers Engineers of Fossano trained for three weeks on basic skiing and ski-mountaineering techniques, on the relevant equipment and their correct use in practice on and off-piste. Under the supervision of highly qualified instructors, meteorological phenomena were also explored in depth with particular attention to the dangers of avalanches and avalanches, as well as self-rescue techniques, which are basic for survival in a winter environment.

Once this first training session has been completed, the personnel who have distinguished themselves most in terms of commitment and ability will continue the training process at the end of which, through continuous selections, they will be able to obtain the "military ski instructor" license.

For the Army's Alpine troops, mountain training represents one of the main phases of the specialized training of their personnel. The specific capabilities that are acquired are in fact fundamental not only for the development of the Army's Arctic and sub-Arctic combat capacity, but also in the context of numerous international operations and at home if called upon to intervene with specialized assets to support the civilian population hit by public calamities.
