Last July 31st, in the open sea, in front of Augusta bay, on board Nave Volcano, the change in command of Operation Safe Mediterranean took place. On board the Logistic Support Ship Volcano, flag ship of the operation, Rear Admiral Gianguido Manganaro handed over the tactical command at sea to Rear Admiral Stefano Costantino, sealing the end of the 7a rotation and the beginning of the 8a.

During the 50 days of this last rotation, the air-naval device made up of several naval units and organic aircraft ensured the presence and surveillance in the strategically relevant maritime spaces of the Mediterranean Sea.

The attention towards the safety of the national strategic submarine structures was then guaranteed by the "Operation Safe Seabeds", which, being a natural extension of OMS, makes use of the same structures and the same chain of command and control, the which gives further versatility to the planning and implementation of the maneuver scheme, with the aim of ensuring the control and surveillance of critical national infrastructures such as gas and cable, telephone and data pipelines.

Rear Admiral Stefano Costantino, commander of the third naval division is back at WHO tactical command after the period 3-31 March, now he is preparing to conduct the mission in continuity with his predecessors, sure of the support of his staff and the crews of the naval air device .
