For the students of the 1st class of the Naval Academy, the baptism of the sea is an important moment, made even more special on the most beautiful vessel in the world.

The 8 July happened immediately after the unmooring from the port of Livorno, a moment that will remain forever carved in the hearts of the students, who boarded the ship Vespucci a few hours earlier for the “2016 Education Campaign”, which will bring unity to the western Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the North Sea until early October 2016.

The boatswain's whistles call the crew to the general maneuvering post to the sail. As soon as you are hooked up, the climb on the very high mainmast begins. It is there that for the first time the students really come into contact with two essential elements indissolubly linked to the life of every sailor, the open sea below, the blue sky above.

With this emotion the students' summer experience began. A succession of exercises, together with the ship's crew that will see the students busy for the next 3 months, rowing on paliscermi (boats in lego rowing), leading the vessel with the rudder at ankles from the bridge, sleeping in the hammock next to side with their friends and colleagues but there is also time for Sunday Holy Mass on the unit's keep. Key moments in the growth process of the students on board the Vespucci.
