The nightmare of terrorism returns and Italy is at high risk

29/12/14

The year that is drawing to a close is marked by worrying signs as terrorism is overcoming the boundaries of the conflict areas of the Middle East and Central Asia and begins to involve European countries and the West in general.

In all probability, the subversive actions will be destined to increase over time with a trend proportional to the military successes that the current International Coalition is achieving on ISIS. A plan that is legitimate to suppose has already begun with the gradual insertion of subversive cells in the "target countries", primarily through migratory flows and then with the return of Western Islamic sympathizers, who are fighting in the ranks of ISIS.

Probably, unlike the sensational actions carried out by Al Qaeda, we will be destined to face acts of micro terrorism also entrusted to residents in the countries chosen as targets. Neighbors whose children may attend the same schools as our children who will be entrusted with actions that are certainly more difficult to identify and deal with than the classic subversive acts that we are used to knowing.

Pre-planned forms of terrorism, expression of a political / religious struggle against nations, governments, ethnic groups or religious faiths, implemented with the aim of obtaining immediate media effects and at the same time feeding terror in the resident population.

It is undeniable that the threat of Islamic extremism returns to be current and perhaps more important than in the past, as it could find fertile ground in the social and economic malaise that is involving Europe in particular, gaining territorial links both with subversive groups. with a political background and with the underworld. In the immediate future it could be difficult to distinguish the external danger from the internal one, aimed at shaking those who from subversive structures are considered "reluctant and submissive crowd".

Moreover, modern technology offers technological means and resources that allow to develop in-depth analyzes in real time of the geopolitical situations of interest and to optimize the choice and type of possible target. Today, the “analyst of terror” can, in fact, make targeted choices through the Internet search engines, while managing the operational structures and pre-established logistic resources in the world at the same time.

In fact, "information warfare" is constantly evolving and is destined to increasingly represent a concrete reality destined to be the origin of any terrorist act and to also lead to "cyber-terrorism", that is a terrorist act aimed at to undermine national and global cybersecurity. A global, technical, transnational and above all anonymous threat that signals from all over the world indicate as having already begun, even if most governments are unprepared to face it. The modern terrorist, on the other hand, will have at his disposal increasingly sophisticated and advanced means of communication that will allow him to strike "with good reason", choosing the optimal moment to carry out the terrorist act.

The nightmare of terrorism, therefore, returns to be real even if it was thought that with the death of Bin Laden the threat would be destined to disappear. An optimistic assessment disavowed by what happens every day by the Islamic State of al-Baghdadi with its threats and concrete acts against the West and the Christian world, proposed as an "ethical obligation" of Islam, shared by hundreds of young Westerners ready to enlist to fight under the banner of the Caliphate. Young people certainly exasperated by the absence of concrete prospects that the industrialized world is denying them and who see a prospect of prosperity increasingly distancing due to the disintegrating action of world technocracies, in particular the European one.

In this scenario, surely Italy is under observation of the ISIS jihadists and has become objective of the media strategy of the Caliphate because Rome is also the capital of world Catholicism and therefore a terrorist act in the Eternal City would have an echo in the whole Christian way with consequences that are not completely foreseeable.

A country, ours, which presented itself to the eyes of Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as a hesitant, indecisive and not very credible state on the international level. Today it has become an uncontrolled destination for thousands of migrants, after a failed management of migratory flows has been developed at national level. Land of landing for desperate people convinced that they can quickly reach goals dreamed of for their whole life, destined, instead, to be disillusioned in a short time and become part of the team of the discontented, potential pawns of the new terrorism.

The Italian situation is destined to become at high risk due to the raging "do-gooders" and the errors of evaluation committed by those who now look with fear at the possible actions of hypothetical jihadists mixed with refugees. An Italy that did not hesitate to praise the various "Arab Springs" forgetting that the realities to be demolished were close to its borders, countries governed by dictators who until the day before had been helped and sponsored by European democracies.

A danger that emerges from recent statements by the head of the Police and the Minister of the Interior. Pansa warns that Italy risks importing fundamentalism with migrants destined to swarm over the whole territory of the European Union. Alfano confirms that the illiterate migrant becomes a highly available subject to be recruited.

A subversive and not just terrorist risk that Italy is running, destined to grow more and more for the social and economic hardship that the young Italian generation are experiencing and that may feel threatened by the presence of migrants, with a consequent reaction or against they or together with them to the State.

A situation where the jihadist in charge of proselytizing would find easy labor while the one charged with carrying out the terrorist act would have the internal complicity of national extremist groups, insurrectionists with the sole purpose of destabilizing a state incapable of guaranteeing them a future other than embezzlement and from malfeasance.
