Navy Riflemen: Italy humiliated

29/04/15

Another postponement, the 58th one announced yesterday by the Indian Supreme Court, which has yet to decide whether the anti-terrorism law (Sua Act) or the ordinary one should be applied for the two Navy Fusiliers held hostage in Delhi for three years.

An aspect of no secondary importance considering that your Act also provides for the death penalty, contrary to what was assured by the Monti government in March 2013 and by the current Premier who has always flaunted security in the management of a matter that instead seems to him got out of hand, similarly to what happened to the High Representative for Foreign Policy and European Security, Federica Mogherini.

Italy continues to be humiliated by Indian arrogance without anyone at the institutional level raising their voice.

Two of our soldiers continue to be held hostage and confirm that the institutions are unable to guarantee them and other colleagues on missions abroad the most important guarantee, that of functional immunity. Everyone reassures but gets nothing, starting with the President of the Republic Mattarella and Premier Renzi who declare on every occasion to constantly follow the story. How effectively, however, it is difficult to ascertain. Rather, given the results, one has reason to think that the initiatives carried out are only facade, absolutely inconclusive.

The orders of the Executive are to be silent, the Italian media "obey" supinely perhaps because they are worried about public funding for publishing.

The news yesterday that the judge of the Indian Supreme Court, Anil R. Dave, had decided to postpone in July the hearing concerning the two Italian Navy Riflemen, was made known with flash of a few seconds from the national news and today only few newspapers have given space to the news. But we do not give up, we do not lower our attention or let ourselves be intimidated by recommendations that day after day prove to be unjustified and derived only for the purpose of keeping the problem in shadow.

So we denounce the soap opera in which two Italian soldiers are protagonists, a farce that has been repeated for three years on the skin of two of our Navy Riflemen and their families. Three Governments have succeeded each other and each has always assured the maximum commitment but has never achieved anything concrete. An executive, the current one, that has continued to delude with the statements of the Premier that after the meeting with Modi during a "coffee break" on the occasion of the last G20 assured the Italians and the Armed Forces on a rapid conclusion of the story.

Today, however, yet another Indian mockery and Italy, supinely, is preparing to host a space on Indian production at the EXPO in Milan, a choice that will certainly be justified on the grounds of defending Italian economic interests, the same that was made official on March 22, 2013 when it was decided to send the two Maròs back to India. An explanation that, however, is not reflected in the reality of things considering that recently the Indian Premier MODI visiting Europe made economic contacts with France and Germany, ignoring Italy which, however, forgets, once again, that the credibility of a country it is quite different from any orders for the supply of goods or services.

Perhaps the writer is wrong in his assessments, but one fact is certain: Italian sovereignty no longer exists and everyone is ready to consider Italy as a country ready to accept any abuse and therefore to be used rather than respected.

The Italian subjection to everyone is now clear. From Europe for the problem of migrants, from the USA for the murder of the Italian aid worker Lo Porto and from India for the case of Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, guilty only of having said "I obey" on 22 March 2013.
