02/02/15

Last week at the hall of honor of the unified circle of garrison, Colonel Rocco Capuano, commander of the 2nd Regiment Genio Pontieri and president of the circle, addressed, on behalf of all the members and staff of the regiment, good wishes for the 100th birthday of Lieutenant Doctor Luigi Tassi.

The mayor of Piacenza, who brought the greetings of the city, and the president of the local branch of the ANA also attended the event. The dott. Tassi joined the military school for medical officers in Florence in the 1941. At the end of the course, the new second lieutenant physician Tassi was assigned to the Alpine department of Cuneo and the 2 August 1942 sent to the Russian Front. For months on the front lines of the Don, he fell prisoner during the dramatic and notorious retreat of our troops.

The period of imprisonment, which lasted three and a half years until June of 1946, will severely mark the soul and body of Lieutenant Tassi.

Returning to Italy, having finished his military duties but relying on his experience in the Army, he dedicated 40 years of his life to his beloved profession.
