Mezzalama Trophy to the athletes of the Army Sports Center

03/05/15

The last chapter of the 2015 Ski Mountaineering World Cup was staged yesterday morning with the dispute of the XX Mezzalama Trophy, one of the most important races on the international scene which, to celebrate the 150 years since the conquest of the Matterhorn, saw the traditional inverted route.

350 teams have therefore started this morning from Gressoney La Trinité to arrive in Breuil Cervinia through Monte Rosa and its most important peaks.

The race saw the winning of the Italia 1 team composed by the choosen major Matteo Eydallin, by the 1 ° caporal major Damiano Lenzi and by the caporal major Michele Boscacci, who preceded with the time of 5: 10: 49, in order the another blue team made up of the chief corporal chosen Manfred Reichegger, the 1 ° caporal major Antonioli Robert and Lorenzo Holzknecht with the time of 5: 15: 29 and the Dynafit 4 team composed by Anton Palzer (DE), Martin Anthamatten closing the podium (CH) and Pietro Lanfranchi (IT).

With today's success, Matteo Eydallin and Damiano Lenzi stand out in the overall standings of the Long Distance World Cup, a success achieved by dominating all the races in the season, namely the Pierra Menta, the Adamello Ski Raid and precisely the Mezzalama.

Damiano Lenzi, thanks to the bonus reserved for the winner of the Long Distance World Cup, succeeds in overtaking his teammate Robert Antonioli and wins, for the second consecutive year, the general World Cup, a result that crowns him the best athlete of the last two seasons.

Antonioli, on the other hand, has to settle for the 2 final place after a season at the highest level in every competition held this year, as confirmed by his 5 world championship medals, the 4 podiums in the World Cup and the victory in the general sprint standings.

Eydallin, also in his own way, enters the history of Mezzalama as the first athlete to win three consecutive editions of the event.

Therefore, one of the most successful seasons ever of the ski touring team of the Army Sports Center can be archived.

The balance is extremely positive, given that in addition to the victories in the general rankings we must remember the 7 medals won at the World Championships in Verbier (SUI), the 8 podiums in the "traditional" World Cup and the 6 podiums in the Long World Cup Distance, the latter also valid for the Grande Course.

All these numbers confirm once more the world leadership of the Alpine team and give confidence in view of the probable future inclusion of ski mountaineering in the program of the Winter Olympic Games.
