The Army bomb squad concluded today the neutralization activities of the 1000-pound aircraft bomb found during maintenance work on the banks of the Orco stream, dating back to the Second World War.

The AN-M 65 model bomb, with a total weight of about 450 kg - of which 250 kg of explosives - was fitted with two mechanical percussion fuzes. The discovery was made by the Interregional Agency for the Po River, responsible for carrying out maintenance on the banks of the Orco stream, which immediately reported the discovery to the competent authorities.

The notification reached the 32nd engineer regiment of sappers of Fossano, a specialist unit of the "Taurinense" alpine brigade, through the prefecture of Turin and the Alpine troops command of the Army.

The delicate reclamation activities began with the removal of the fuzes, carried out on site inside an expansion chamber created with the aim of containing the effects of a potential accidental explosion, and were subsequently concluded with the transport of the main body of the bomb to a quarry, specially prepared for subsequent destruction.
