With a ceremony held in the presence of the Chief of Defense, Admiral Luigi Binelli Mantelli, and the Libyan Gen. Defense Chief of Staff. Abdulsalam Jadallah Alobeidi, the 1 training course for Libyan security forces will end today.

The ceremony, which will take place in the district of Persano - Caserma Cucci / Capone, establishes the end of the training cycle of 14 weeks for 270 Libyan soldiers arrived in Italy on 10 January 2014 course.

The selection and training were organized in two phases: the first in Libya and the second in Italy. The Libyan military acquired the specific skills to operate at the level of light infantry company with control and security capabilities of the national territory. This activity stems from a specific request from the government of Tripoli made to Italy, Great Britain, the United States and Turkey, as part of the "G8 Compact" initiative for the reconstruction of the new Libyan armed and security forces.

The first phase began last November in Tripoli with the selection and the amalgamation of the participants by a team of military experts of the Italian army who worked in full synergy with the Libyan authorities appointed to select personnel. The program, entirely financed by the Government of Tripoli, it is part of the bilateral cooperation between Italy and Libya in the defense sector (army, navy and aeronautics) and in the field of police training by the carabinieri, thanks to a signed agreement in Rome the 28 May 2012 and which provides, as a whole, the formation in Italy of several groups, spread over time, for a maximum of 2000 units.

The courses held in Tripoli by the instructors of the carabinieri weapon concerned the training of police forces in various uses: from the service at the embassies to the tourist police, from the stock service to the border police service and the special anti-crime service. Other courses are organized for the defense of the infrastructures and in Brindisi an amphibious qualification course was recently held at the San Marco marine brigade. In total the Italian armed forces have trained 1320 men in Libya and 185 men in Italy.
