"Safe Streets": military fights in Venice

01/05/15

An Italian Army patrol, belonging to the "Serenissima" Lagoon Regiment and employed in the Safe Roads Operation in Venice, was attracted by loud shouting from an alley adjacent to Piazzale Roma on Wednesday afternoon.

Immediately on the spot, the Lagoons promptly intervened in support of two agents of the Venetian Municipal Police, who had also just arrived, thus managing to quell a brawl caused by two people and subsequently proceeding to identify them. The two individuals, Italians, were found to be employees of as many baggage transport agencies in the lagoon city. The military's prompt intervention meant that the situation did not degenerate, even at the expense of their physical safety.

Since August 2008, the Lagoon Regiment, reporting directly to the Northern Defense Forces Command, has participated in the "Safe Roads" operation in Venice in competition and jointly with the Police Forces.
