A team of Army bombers has successfully completed the defusing and blasting of an aircraft bomb dating back to the 2nd World War. The bomb, weighing over 500 kg and of American manufacture, type GP-M33 containing 285 kg of explosives, was found on February 23, along the bank of the Adda river in the municipality of Pizzighettone (CR), during the works for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. 

The operations to secure the bomb were concluded in full compliance with the program, thanks to the perfect synergy of all the institutional subjects involved, coordinated by the prefecture of Cremona. At 08.00 the evacuation of the approximately 1000 inhabitants residing within a radius of 500 meters was completed. from the place where the bomb was found, including the guests of the home for the elderly (Mazza Foundation). During the reclamation operations, the airspace, road traffic of the SP 234 and navigation along the Adda river were forbidden.

In addition, some trains on the Milan-Mantua section have been canceled. At 10.00 the Army specialists proceeded with the removal of the fuzes, using special equipment such as the "rocket wrench", which allows you to operate from a safe distance. Subsequently, the bomb squads transferred the bomb to the "Costa di Bassano" quarry in Albarola (PC), where it was made to shine inside a hole 11 meters deep. The operations were successfully completed at 16.00. The 10th Engineer Regiment of Cremona is one of the 12 units of the Army responsible for the reclamation of war remnants throughout the country. In particular, since 2015 the regiment has carried out 158 ​​interventions, clearing 3270 ordnance of which 9 aircraft bombs.
