Rome: Girandola michelangiolesca, the Army in Piazza del Popolo

Yesterday evening in Piazza del Popolo, on the occasion of the celebrations for the patrons of the city and of Christianity, the Saints Peter and Paul, the historic event of Michelangelo's Girandola, a firework display that saw the participation of the Army with the music of 'order of the 1º regiment Granaders of Sardinia and with 4 binomies riding the regiment Montebello Lancer (8 °).

The band of the 1º regiment Granaders of Sardinia, in historical uniform of the 1848, entertained the numerous Roman and foreign public who came for the occasion, performing pieces of the Risorgimento and closing the event, after the fireworks, on the notes of the anthem of Mameli.

The participation of the Army in the Michelangelo's pinwheel has sealed the strong union between the armed force and the community, witnessed by the interventions in the cases of public utility they see, only for the operation Safe Roads, more than 7.000 men and women work alongside the police forces to protect the territory, to which are added over 850 operations to clean up ordnance dating back to the World Wars, already carried out in 2016.

The band of the 1º regiment Granaders of Sardinia it was founded in 1786 and is the oldest musical formation of the Army. It is exhibited at official visits by heads of state and government, sporting and international meetings as well as in many military and civil manifestations.
