This morning, at the "Fabbri" airport of Viterbo, the ceremony for the return of the personnel of the 1 Army Aviation Regiment "ANTARES", after six months of mission in Afghanistan, took place.
Colonel Stefano Silvestrini, a regiment re-united on the flag-raising square, emphasized that the "ANTARES", even on the occasion of this commitment, achieved results of absolute prestige, contributing to strengthening the positive image of the Italian armed forces in the international arena thanks to the commitment and professionalism of his men and women.
In particular, the regiment, in its fifth turn under the command of the Aviation Battalion - "FENICE" Task Force in Afghanistan, carried out the task of providing medical evacuation support (Medevac) to the Train Advise Command West, or the multinational NATO Command and Italian-led interforcements operating in the west of Afghanistan. In addition to the MEDEVAC capacity, the Fenice helicopters ensure:
reconnaissance and exploration missions;
personal and logistic transport missions;
armed escort missions in favor of land convoys;
air escort missions;
self-defense deterrence missions to increase contingent security.
