The Italian Army General Staff has decreed the establishment of the department, as part of an extensive project to reorganize the units of the Italian Army designed to carry out special operations.
The regiment, which inherits the war flag of the 3 Air Force Regiment "Aldebaran" which operated until the 1998 from the base of Bresso (MI), will be initially classified within the Army Aviation Brigade, only later, at the end of a process of acquiring the entire spectrum of necessary skills, it will pass under the command of the Army Special Forces Command.
General Primicerj, in his address of greeting, underlined the value of the efforts made so far and encouraged the staff to continue with the same professionalism and the same enthusiasm shown so far.
The Regiment, commanded by Colonel Andrea Di Stasio, coming from the General Staff of the Army and already head of the reconstitution team, will be equipped with AB412, NH90 and CH47 aircraft.
