The Venus Tower's military polygon, nothing to envy a protected oasis

The Torre Veneri military range, in terms of conservation and environmental protection, has nothing to envy of a protected oasis. This was stated by a study carried out by the Department of biological and environmental sciences and technologies (Disteba) of the University of Salento which was reported this morning by the head of the Lecce public prosecutor, Cataldo Motta, and which confirms the conclusions reached by the investigation born from a statement by Gabriele Molendini, member of the political movement Lecce Bene Comune.

The investigation was, however, now archived by the investigating judge Simona Panzera. "But a very relevant fact is that, after the judicial investigations, the Army General Staff signed a convention for the systematic monitoring of the area every six months, and this is the first case of its kind in Italy, explained Motta. The initiative launched in Lecce, in fact, could at this point be implemented in other areas of Italy where there are military polygons where the existence of pollutants linked to the use of weapons is suspected. The doubt about the existence of depleted uranium in Torre Veneri has been definitively dispelled, ”said the prosecutor Cataldo Motta.
