The "Safe Roads" operation, launched on 4 August 2008, sees the Army soldiers employed at national level, in competition and jointly with the Police Forces, for the garrison of the territory and of the main metropolitan areas and the surveillance of sensitive points.

The operations in competition with the Police Forces are not new to the Army which, thanks to the experience gained in international missions, to the great professionalism and dedication of all its soldiers and to the continuous training carried out for this specific activity, confirms itself as an authentic resource for the country.

It should be noted, in particular, that in these 8 years the Army has guaranteed the control of the sites of the "Salerno-Reggio Calabria" motorway, supported the immigration emergency in the hotspots, provided a security framework for the main events of the 2015 and those still in progress, contributing to border surveillance and prevention activities, search for illegal landfills and fires of malicious waste, in Campania, in the so-called "Land of fires".

Ready to intervene when any need arises already with the operation Sicilian Vespers after the attacks against the magistrates Falcone and Borsellino in Palermo in the 1992, Riace in Calabria and the operation Domino born following the attack on the Twin Towers in New York in the 2001, the Army has long been employed in the national territory, in competition with the Police Forces.

The "Safe Roads" operation over time has seen an average use of over 4000 soldiers. Today, it has over 7000 soldiers distributed in 51 provinces. The main results achieved since the start of the operation are as follows:

• 15.047 PEOPLE ARRESTED
