30/04/15

Staff of the 2 ° Regiment Genio Guastatori carried out last Tuesday, at the former Dal Molin airport of Vicenza, the reclamation of three aircraft bombs dating back to the Second World War.

The three war remnants weighed over 100 kg and, for the first time in Italy, a new reclamation technique was used, following the new standardized procedures in force in the national context.

Precisely these new techniques have made it possible to reduce the projection radius of any blasting shards, containing the clearing bell at 200 meters through the construction of an expansion chamber dominated by an earth embankment.

The evacuation of the area by the Vicenza Police Headquarters began at 07: 00, with the help of the Fire Brigade and the Italian Red Cross.

At 10: 05 the commander of the 2 ° Regiment Genio Guastatori, Colonel Luigi Musti, issued the order of weapons and fire to the EOD team engaged in the danger zone.

Finally, at the 11: 25 the communication of the end of the operation was given, which once again marked a great success for the Italian Army bomb squads.

About a year after the reclamation of the now famous "Old Lady" (v.articolo), the English 4000 airplane bomb dropped during the Second World War right in the area of the former Dal Molin airport in Vicenza, the 2 Genio Regiment carried out an important new intervention in favor of the Vicenza community.
