"In the land of blackbirds: Kosovo between past and future"

Kosovo, a strip of land in the heart of the Balkans, is a half state. Tried by a hard war and self-proclaimed republic in 2008, to date it is still not recognized by 82 UN countries, while Serbia claims its power, considering it to all intents and purposes one of its province.

The docufilm starts here "In the land of battlements: Kosovo between past and future", premiered on Wednesday 20 April at 21.00 pm on Sky Cinema Cult HD (Sky channel 314) and on Sky TG24 (DTT channel 50), a touching portrait of Kosovo (which owes its name to Kosovo Polje, the Piana del Merli, place of many of the historical events that have marked these lands) which starts from the past to reach our days: the history of a State that, among many adversities, tries to look to a tomorrow full of unknowns and problems complex.

Produced by Michele Bongiorno's Good Day Films, in collaboration with Sky Cinema and directed by Andrea Bettinetti, In the land of the battlements: Kosovo between past and future it was created with the support of the Defense Staff - Public Information Office and the Army General Staff - Public Information and Communication Office. The documentary tells the commitment in Kosovo of the Italian KFOR mission, the NATO military force - which also includes the Italian Army - responsible for maintaining security and restoring peace after the cessation of hostilities in 1999.

After Veterans e Along the Blue Line, also produced by Good Day Films in collaboration with Sky Cinema, In the land of the battlements: Kosovo between past and future is the new documentary-event dedicated to Italian soldiers, men and women who, far from the spotlight, commit themselves every day in Kosovo to guarantee the safety of the Serb and Albanian populations, in a suspended situation, where the ethnic conflict still smolders , managing to act as an impartial mediator appreciated by both ethnic groups.

The docufilm is a long journey through today's Kosovo, in the company of three LMT units (liaison monitoring team) of the Italian Army, which are in charge of monitoring the needs and social needs of the population throughout the territory.

Starting from the Italian Village, home of the MultiNational Battle Group - West of KFOR, the story unfolds throughout the country, to tell all the facets and complexities of this area: from the Gorazdevac enclave, where one of the last Serbian communities resides remained in Kosovo, in the divided city of Mitrovica, where ethnic differences are still experienced with hatred and suspicion. Passing through the Orthodox monastery of Zociste, entirely reconstructed thanks to KFOR after its destruction, and that of Decani, still subjected to armed defense, from the Presidential Palace to the Prekaz Memorial, the docufilm then shows the ancient mosque of the village of Prekouluka and the Great Mosque of Pristina, to talk about the difficulties that plague the country and the burning problem of the Foreign Fighters.

The story is enriched by the testimonies of many special characters, such as the commander of KFOR, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, the outgoing president of Kosovo Atifefe Jahjaga, but also university professors from Pristina and Mitrovica, imams, monks, artists, students and journalists, for illustrate the progress made by Kosovo and its current situation and try to imagine what a possible future is for this State.
