The banner of the 1 ° ANTARES leaves for Afghanistan

11/02/15

Today the combat banner of the 1st AVES "ANTARES" regiment has left the Viterbo headquarters to reach the operational base in Herat, Afghanistan, for an intense operational period. With it, symbol of the department, the regiment commander, Colonel Stefano Silvestrini, headed a force of about 100 soldiers, including men and women.

The Viterbo regiment is the Aviation Battalion within the "Resolute Support" mission. The latter, following the ISAF mission (International Security Assistance Force), ended the 31 December 2014, will be reduced in terms of organic consistency and will focus exclusively on training and consulting tasks for the Afghan forces, which still need support both in some sectors technical-specialist as well as in logistics.

Departures come after an intense training period, during which the personnel carried out multiple preparation activities aimed at achieving the professional preparation objectives required by the mission.

The "ANTARES" regiment, which was granted the high honor of the honorary citizenship of the city of Viterbo in the 2006, returns to Afghanistan with the same spirit of service, with the dedication and professionalism that in the past have given prestige, both in Homeland both abroad, to the regiment itself, to the city to which it is inextricably linked and to Italy.
