The Army helps the population affected by the snowfall

31/12/14

On the morning of today the men of the 11 ° Regiment Genio Guastatori of Foggia were alerted by the prefecture of Barletta to intervene in favor of the population in the Apulian town hit by heavy snowfalls.

After about an hour of activation, coordinated by the 2 ° Defense Forces Command of San Giorgio a Cremano, the soldiers with earth-moving machinery left Foggia to reach the areas most affected by the snowfalls. In coordination with the other forces deployed in the area, the engineers have provided their contribution to the population for the restoration of the road system.

The technical skills of the personnel and the means supplied to the Army guarantee the precious intervention in the case of public utility and for the protection of the environment. In particular, the Genio departments, thanks to the experience gained in foreign missions and the high "dual-use" connotation (ability to cooperate with the civil authorities in favor of citizenship and the operational one expressed in operational theaters), work in favor of the community national both in the case of public disasters, and for the remediation of war residues still widely present on the Italian territory.
