The Army at Piazza di Siena for World Autism Day

03/04/15

Yesterday, in Piazza di Siena, the Italian Army participated, with six pairs riding the "Lancieri di Montebello" Regiment, in the initiative entitled "Riding the Blue 2015". The activity took place on the occasion of World Autism Day and was promoted by the ONLUS "Emotion has no voice" and "Humanitarian Association Luca Grisolia".

Within the military hippodrome of the Lancieri di Montebello, located in Tor di Quinto, hippotherapy activities have been carried out in favor of children with disabilities for several years. For the occasion, the horse rides present at the event, accompanied the path of boys and adults suffering from autism in the park of Villa Borghese while a Veterinary Officer and a four-legged nurse guaranteed the necessary veterinary service.

The Head of Equestrian Center, Lieutenant Colonel Giancarlo Cati, intervened as a guest during the press conference that opened the event to illustrate the Armed Force's commitment to the development of hippotherapy and integrated horse riding activities.

The Italian Army, through 9 between Regiments and Training Institutes throughout the national territory, daily supports this type of activity carried out by different Onlus through the total use of about 40 horses in favor of more than 400 boys with disabilities by making available infrastructure, staff and materials.

The units on horseback, even with such initiatives, demonstrate their multiple value with the capacity to intervene to support the population in the event of public disasters and in foreign theater (with tasks of exploration, security and protection and acquisition of objectives) without forgetting the commitments of high representation in the field of State and competitive ceremonial.
