Yesterday morning, following a fire that broke out in a wooded area between San Cassiano and San Martino in Gattara (RA), an Army Aviation (AVES) helicopter (UH-90) took off from the airport of Rimini to compete with the fire brigade, the forest carabinieri and the civil protection in extinguishing operations.

In particular, the intervention was carried out by 2 crews of the 7th AVES regiment who alternated in the almost 7 hours of flight carrying out 3 releases in 16 sorties for a total of about 24000 liters of water.

The extinguishing operations were complex due to the presence of strong winds which made the area difficult to reach.

The intervention is part of the commitment of the Defense in the Forest Firefighting Campaign. The AIB campaign, which will continue until 30 September, consolidates the collaboration, which has already been in place for years, between the armed forces, the national body of firefighters and civil protection (PROCIV) to make the fight against forest fires more effective and incisive.

Fire prevention is one of the capabilities that the Defense makes available to the national community on a daily basis in cases of public calamity.

In particular, the commitment of the armed forces stems from the agreement stipulated between the Ministry of Defense and the Department of Civil Protection as part of the AIB campaign.
