Lancieri at Piazza Navona

07/01/15

Piazza Navona, Epiphany day. The square is packed with people, young and old are waiting for the passage of the Magi, preceded by the knights of the Lancers regiment of Montebello (8th). The procession starts around 17,30 pm and starts from Piazza della Cancelleria.

Once in Piazza Navona, they travel around the entire perimeter until they reach Palazzo Braschi where the living crib awaits them.

To open the passage, among the crowd, of the procession are the men of the police of Rome Capital, the soldiers of the Carabinieri and the volunteers of the Civil Protection Unit of the National Carabinieri Association.

To pay attention that no one gets injured and hinders the passage of the Lancers, the retired Marshal Roberto Mirto (the "great" Marshal Mirto, as his men remember him on facebook) was positioned in the center.

Ordinary Marshal Francesco Mariani, one of the three platoon commanders of the mounted squadron, is in command.

Men and women of the Lancers of Montebello accompany the horses of the Magi and by popular demand, before leaving, they retrace the perimeter of the square.

The staging of the nativity scene inside Palazzo Braschi, of the passage of the Magi and of the shepherds is organized by the Roman Historical Group.
