The "Pinerolo" returns from Afghanistan

Today in Bari, at the "Briescese" barracks, the ceremony to greet the return of the "Pinerolo" soldiers from the mission in Afghanistan, called Resolute Support Assignment.

The event, which saw the highly decorated war flag of the 7th Bersaglieri Regiment deployed, took place in the presence of the commander of the Southern Operational Forces Command, general of corps Luigi Luigi De Leverano and of the commander of the division "Acqui", general of division Antonio Vittiglio over that of numerous civil, religious and military authorities of the Puglia.

The "Pinerolo" brigade, the only large unit of the Italian Army already digitalized and equipped with the innovative "Freccia" armored vehicle, in Afghanistan led the "Train Advise Assist Command West" (TAAC-W), the NATO Command based on Herat. The TAAC - W expresses a new operational concept no longer focused on the combat function, but based essentially on the support and training of the Afghan Armed Forces.

During the seven months of the mission the soldiers of the "Pinerolo", under the orders of Brigadier General Gianpaolo Mirra, conducted numerous training, assistance and consultancy activities for colleagues in the Afghan security forces, obtaining important results and awards also in the field international. Among the numerous activities of particular relevance was the planning activity for the realization of the Expeditionary Advisor Team (EAT) project, which provides for the periodic sending of Advisor teams for home training and training of the brigades of the Afghan National Army and provincial police commands located throughout the TAAC - W. responsibility area

The commander of the Southern Operational Forces Command, Army Corps General Luigi Francesco De Leverano, expressed great satisfaction for the excellent results achieved by the "Pinerolo" brigade on Afghan territory in a very sensitive period for the stabilization of the entire Asian area and for the efforts made in the field of civil-military cooperation in order to improve the living conditions of the local population.
