Italy split in two for an airplane bomb

Army bomb squads will defuse the 2 December, a war device from 1000 lbs dating back to World War II. The operations will involve the closure of motorway and high speed. Overflight is prohibited.

At the request of the prefecture of Terni, the Army bomb squads will provide for the defusing and blasting of an American airplane bomb (AN-M 65A1) from 1000 lbs (approximately 440 kg), dating back to the Second World War; the reclamation operations will be conducted by the specialists of the 6 ° Pioneering Genio Regiment of Rome.

The bomb was found in the locality of Renari in the municipality of Giove (TR), a few hundred meters from the A1 motorway and the railway line. The operations, coordinated by the prefecture of Terni, will begin at 08.30 with the complete evacuation of the entire resident population within a radius of 1900 m from the point of discovery of the device.

For the disengagement, the A1 motorway will be closed to traffic from 10.45 to 13.30 in both directions between the Orvieto and Orte tollgates. The blocking of railway traffic on the Rome-Florence high-speed line and on the slow Rome-Chiusi regional line starting from 11.30 will also be in force. The disengagement will also involve the closure of air traffic over the intervention area.

At 11: 30 the Army bomb squads will begin the bomb dismantling operation, which will be divided into two phases: the first to remove the fuses which will be followed by the safe transport for the subsequent blasting in the quarry (Località San Pellegrino - Amelia).
