Entitled a square in memory of c.le magg. chosen Alessandro Pibiri

It was named and inaugurated, in Selargius, in the province of Cagliari, in memory of the chosen corporal Alessandro Pibiri, graduate of the 152 ° Infantry Regiment of the "Sassari" Brigade who died on 5 June 2006 following a terrorist attack perpetrated against a patrol of the Italian contingent engaged in Iraq as part of the "Ancient Babylon" mission.

At the ceremony, in addition to the family members of the military, were present the mayor Gian Franco Cappai, the commander of the Military Autonomous Command of Sardinia, general of corps Claudio Tozzi, the commander of the Brigade "Sassari", Brigadier General Arturo Nitti, the commander of the 152 Regiment, Colonel Raffaele Vladimir Forgione, the commander of the 151 Regiment, Colonel Enrico Rosa and numerous other civil and military authorities of the various Armed Forces and of the Armed Corps of the State present in the territory.

The participation of citizens and schoolchildren who experienced the ninth anniversary of the death of the young "Sassarino" with particular emotion was also very felt.

The commemoration day began in the city cemetery with the blessing and deposition of a laurel wreath on the monumental tomb of the graduate.

The inauguration ceremony of the square was instead marked by the surrender of the honors of an honorary stake of the 151 Regiment and the notes of "Dimonios", the famous hymn of the "Red Devils" intoned for the occasion by the military band of the "Sassari" Brigade.

Following this, the interventions of the mayor of Selargius and of General Nitti who paid tribute to the memory of the major corporal chosen by Pibiri highlighting the distinctive features of his work, entirely spent at the service of the country.
