Installation of the War Flag of the 80th "ROMA" regiment

Inside the "Gastone Giacomini" barracks in Monte Romano, the ceremony of installing the War Flag took place today which marks the change of name of the logistics support department Monte Romano Polygon in 80th “ROME” regiment.

The Army, in the name of continuity and by virtue of the ideal bond that binds today's soldiers to those of the past, has decided to assign to logistics support department Monte Romano Polygon the glorious Banner. This process began on 19 December 2023 when the Monte Romano department received the over one hundred year old War Flag inherited from the Cassino volunteer training regiment, decorated with a Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Italy, two Medals of gold for Military Valor and a bronze Medal for Military Valor.

The regiment commander, Colonel Gennaro Di Domenico, in the presence of the commander of the territorial area of ​​the Army Land Operational Forces Command, Division General Fernando Paglialunga, of Dr. Gennaro Capo, prefect of Viterbo, the mayors of Monte Romano and Vetralla, the municipal councilors of the cities of Viterbo and Schio, and all the staff of the department recalled in his greeting address the importance of history and traditions for project towards the future. “Receiving such a glorious flag, guarding it and protecting it, can only be an incentive to continue our mission with even greater commitment”.

The War Flag, or Banner, for units of the Cavalry Army, accompanies a military unit both in peacetime and in combat. It is the symbol of the honor of the military unit that guards it and represents its traditions, its history and the memory of its fallen.
