It took place yesterday morning in the historic setting of Piazza del Plebiscito, in the presence of the Minister of Defense sen. Roberta Pinotti, of the Chief of Staff of the General Defense Graziano and of the Chief of Staff of the General Army of Army Corps Errico, the ceremony of the 228 anniversary of the foundation of the Nunziatella Military School of the Army and the contextual oath of loyalty to the Italian Republic of the students of the 228th course. Godfather of the course is the Gold Medal for Military Valor Lieutenant Colonel Gianfranco Paglia who greeted the young students.
Numerous civil, religious and military authorities took part in the ceremony, including the president of the Campania region, dr. Vincenzo De Luca and the mayor of the city of Naples dott. Luigi De Magistris. Deployed beside the regiment of students in historical uniforms, were present the Labari of the Combatant associations and of Arma, the banners of the city of Naples, and of the Campania region, as well as the glorious flag of the institute, decorated with the Bronze Medal of Valor Army.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Defense said "We want to make the oldest military school in Europe the first European military school. An ambitious project that we will tackle in successive steps ... The words of your oath are the words of my oath: Faithfulness, discipline, honor, defense of the Fatherland, they are all values that configure what you are ... You can be an antidote to hatred, in these moments of tension ”.
During his speech, Chief of Defense General Staff Graziano said: "La Nunziatella is a school that has forged military leadership and the country's ruling class ... An important assumption of responsibility by young students to the country ... Be proud of this choice".
The Chief of Staff of the Army Corps General Errico, after thanking the intervening authorities, addressing the students, said: "You are the real protagonists of this solemn ceremony and I bring to you the affectionate embrace of the whole Army. Through the oath you have just taken before the Flag, you have consecrated yourselves to those values of love of country, fidelity to institutions and loyalty which must be the patrimony not only of all members of the Armed Forces, but also of every citizen ”.
During the event the traditional ritual of "delivery of the sword" was held, a gesture with which the "senior" student formally invests the newly arrived at the School as a "student".
The parade of the regiment was followed by the ex-pupils of the "Nunziatella" Military School who took part in the ceremony.
