18/03/15

The meeting was also attended by the president of the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) Luca Pancalli and some of the testimonials that during the "Invictus Games" in London publicized the event.

"Throwing the heart beyond the obstacle to overcome one's own limits: you have done it and you have achieved important goals. Your example is the metaphor of what I would like to happen for the country". Minister Pinotti said this when he met the athletes of the Paralympic Defense Sports Group at Palazzo Barberini.

The minister recalled how the Group was born in a short time, achieving important successes, as confirmed by the medals won at the Invictus Games in London.

"You represent an important message, on how barriers can be overcome, even quickly" added the minister who on this occasion wished to recall the carabinieri marshal Luigi Marasco, veteran of Nassiriyah, who yesterday, with a high civic sense and without thinking to himself, he intervened during a robbery to stop two criminals at the cost of his life.

During the meeting which was also attended by the Undersecretary of State for Defense Gioacchino Alfano and the Gold Medal for Military Valor, Lieutenant Colonel Gianfranco Paglia and the Chief Corporal Andrea Adorno, the Minister thanked the testimonials that became available to advertise the "Invictus Games": Yuri Chechi, Gabriella Ferrone, Massimo Tammaro, Ciro Esposito, Benedetta Rinaldi and Cristina Chiabotto.

On this occasion the president of CIP Pancalli thanked the Minister and the Defense for the support given to the initiative.

The Group - created following the protocol of understanding between the Defense and the CIP - is made up of disabled military personnel of the 4 Armed Forces with the aim of promoting sports and allowing them to participate in sports events of national and international importance.

The project is aimed at military personnel who suffered permanent and debilitating injuries during service in Italy and abroad. The department's attention to its staff is based on the principle that sport can be used as a means to increase opportunities for integration and affirmation of the person, enhancing the body spirit and the sense of belonging to the armed forces.

The athletes of the Group will meet at the sports facilities of the "Santa Lucia Foundation" in Rome, where the selections of the new athletes who intend to be part of the #port group will be held, and the admission tests for the identification of participants to the future World Military Games to be held in Korea.
