Confirmation that Italy plays a significant role in contributing to international security comes from the appointment assumed by General Salvatore Farina in the NATO sphere: the first Italian to head the Joint Force Command Brunssum.

"The assumption of the command of the Joint Force Command of Brunssum by an Italian general - declared the Chief of Defense Staff, General Graziano, speaking at the ceremony - it is significant of the strategic role that Italy plays at this time in international operational theaters for security and in particular within NATO. A recognition of the quality of our commanders currently engaged in many missions and in increasing roles of responsibility".

Honored to have received the confidence of the government, the General Staff and the NATO chain of command, General Farina, recalled the importance of the international command to which he was placed, which has the task of planning and foreseeing future missions of the Alliance and NATO Response Force, but above all the management of the NATO mission in Afghanistan.

The ceremony, held in Brunnsum (Holland), was also attended by the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, General Philip Breedlove, the Dutch Chief of Staff for Defense, the German Defense Force and numerous Alliance civil and military authorities.
