The gen. Graziano at the ceremony for the anniversary of Mignano Montelungo

This morning in Mignano Montelungo, at the Military Memorial, the 71 anniversary of the battle of the same name was fought, fought in the Second World War, for which the city was awarded the gold medal for military valor and the gold medal to civil merit.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Defense, Hon. Gioacchino Alfano and the army chief of staff, general Claudio Graziano.

General Graziano, after laying a crown in memory of the fallen, in his speech addressed a reverent and moving thought to all the fallen of all times "their sacrifice is a precious legacy and an example to which we must be inspired and should not be lost in the collective memory. The armed forces want to convey this message of courage, unity, cohesion, discipline and reaffirm their democratic loyalty to the institutions, continuing to show courage and if necessary to offer their lives for the good of their homeland and of institutions honoring the oath sworn ".

Undersecretary of defense Alfano, recalling the extreme sacrifice of those boys who fought the battle of Montelungo, stressed that "never more than today we need to build peace in Europe by facing new dangers and our armed forces allow us to prove that we are second to none ".

On the sidelines of the ceremony, General Graziano, answering questions from journalists on the army's commitment on the national territory and abroad, underlined that "our men and women in uniform continue to prove their humanity and physical courage. The army is at the service of the country and represents a resource for development ”.

The celebration was attended, among others, by the military commander of the capital, General Mauro Moscatelli, the mayor of Mignano Montelungo, Antonio Verdone, the president of the national association of liberation war fighters, ambassador Cortese De Bosis and the prefect of Caserta, Carmela Pagano. The war flag of the 47th “Ferrara” volunteer training regiment, a representation of the students of the military school of the Nunziatella army and the band of the Sardinian grenadiers brigade was framed in the inter-force deployment, for the surrender of honors.
