The 17th ordinary session (67th special session) of the Istituto Alti Studi per la Difesa concluded last Friday, June 15 in Rome in the splendid setting of Palazzo Salviati, headquarters of the Casd (Centro Alti Studi per la Difesa).

Present at the ceremony (held to seal the end of the training activities for the current academic year, including that relating to the eighteenth course of the Institute of Staff General Staff - ISSMI), the Undersecretary of Defense, the Hon. Gioacchino Alfano (who, among other things, expressed words of great appreciation for the high standard achieved by the visitors), the Chief of Defense Staff, gen. Claudio Graziano and, of course, the president of the Center, gen. ca Massimiliano Del Casale.

The Iasd course, which constitutes the maximum moment of high training for the military and civilian leadership of the Defense and of the Guardia di Finanza Corps, also saw the participation of representatives of the State Institutes in this edition, along the lines of previous experiences. of leaders of the various economic, social and institutional realities of the country, as well as of qualified exponents of the free professions, enriched by the presence of officers from allied countries and friends, coming from Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Brazil and China , from Egypt, France, Germany, Djibouti, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Niger, Pakistan, Senegal and the USA.

It was articulated in two phases: the first, "at a distance" (from 12 October 2015 to 6 January 2016), during which the visitors went to the preparatory study for the following seminars of the following phase (second) which, instead , saw the participants engaged in a cycle of conferences and round tables aimed at giving them the ability to evaluate and analyze strategic issues, concerning the sphere of defense and security policy, international relations and law, sociology and communication, the science of organization, economic-industrial policy, the peacekeeping and humanitarian law and arms control.

Moreover, from 30 March to 6 May, the ordinary activities have been integrated by the International Capstone Course (ICC), which allowed participants (including some brigade general officers and foreign colonels, destined to hold top positions in their nations) to increase and deepen relations with military institutions between different countries and learn the peculiar Italian perception or perspective on international security issues.

All of this, enriched by visits to commands and operative units of the armed forces and police bodies, as well as to national and international institutions and institutions (Brussels and Paris: in the latter city, some officers participated in the work of the 16 ^ C4 Conference held at the CHEM Center des Hautes Etudes Militaires) of high interest from a technical-professional point of view.

A formative excellence of our country, in short, destined to become even more central in the professional curriculum of the highest institutional civil and military positions, of the entrepreneurial, industrial and professional professions, given the increasing character comprehensive approach oriented of the national security system, also on the basis of the provisions of the "White Paper for international security and defense" presented by Minister Pinotti last year, focusing, among other things, precisely on a significant reform aimed at achieving greater internal integration of the Defense system, improving it, in this perspective, the current professional model.
