Yesterday at the Monte Romano shooting range the “Iron Fringe” exercise was held which involved two heavy mortar platoons of the 1 regiment “Granatieri di Sardegna”.
The exercise, carried out by the mortar units, part of the Maneuver Support Company, aims to consolidate the knowledge of the procedures provided by the "Standard" training module and then implement them until reaching the "Advanced" one.
The training dedicated to the planning, organization and conduct of operations with "Thomson" mortars from 120 mm was directed by the 1 "Assietta" battalion in the presence of Brigadier General Gaetano Lunardo, commander of the "Granatieri di Sardegna" brigade, in a simulated operating context adhering to the current international scenario.
The "Granatieri di Sardegna" 1 regiment, known for its high representation activities at institutional and garrison centers, has been used in all major foreign operating theaters in the last five years and is currently the unit that provides the largest number of men in the "Lazio-Umbria-Abruzzo" group for the "Safe Roads" operation.
