The Chief of Staff of the Army, Corps General Danilo Errico, attended yesterday in Piacenza, in the historic setting of the North Heavy Maintenance Pole, at the celebration of the 101st anniversary of the Battle of the Highlands e Festival of Transport and Materials, Logistic weapon par excellence of the Army.
A history spanning over a hundred years that of the Army vehicles, today the Weapon of Transport and Materials, protagonists of logistical support, present in all military operations, at home and abroad.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the war flag of the Weapon of Transport and Materials, the Banner of the City and the Province of Piacenza and the Labari of the Combat and Weapon Associations. The event was attended in addition to the highest civilian, military and religious officials of Piacenza, the logistic commander of the Army, general of the army corps Leonardo di Marco, the major general Gerardo Restaino, dean of the TRAMAT weapon and the major general Arnaldo Della Sala, TRAMAT commander. In addition, all the workers of the two military establishments in the city were present, accompanied by their families and some elementary classes of Piacenza schools.
During his speech, the Chief of Staff of the Army underlined the importance of the Transport and Materials Weapon which ensures support for the units of the armed force on the national territory and in foreign operational theaters, also providing competition in cases of public calamities for the support of the civilian population such as on the occasion of the terrible earthquake that, last year, brought central Italy to its knees. "It is an onerous commitment, in the wake of traditions and the result of an uncommon dedication and silent daily work, which has earned you the esteem of the national community and the respect of fellow soldiers and constitutes the best viaticum to be able to always reach new successes that are realized also thanks to the precious and competent contribution of the personnel and civil workers who, moreover, celebrate their feast day today. Professionals who, in constant and perfect synergy, work alongside their colleagues in uniform, confirming themselves as an integral part of the large Army family, as well as an essential component for the performance of all its multiple and delicate tasks”, Then concluded General Errico.
The weapon of Transport and Materials of the Italian Army, responsible for the logistical support to the units of the armed force, a crucial sector that is critical and transversal to all the operational and training activities of the Armed Forces, has in Piacenza two realities of excellence of national importance : the North Heavy Maintenance Pole, established under the name of "Artillery Construction Workshop" on 1 July 1911, enucleated from Artillery Direction located since 1863 in the area of the Farnesiano Castle, and the National Motorization, Genie, Artillery and NBC Supply Pole, established under the name of "Main Spare Parts Warehouse" in 1940.
