The bomb, an American-made aircraft bomb weighing 500 pounds, has been stabilized in recent days and secured thanks to the construction of a particular structure that would have limited damage in the event of an accidental explosion.
The delicate defusing operation, conducted in the field by a team of specialist bomb disposal experts, expert in the field of deactivation of regulatory and circumstantial explosive devices, involved the removal of the head and tail fuses from the bomb, both armed; transport is scheduled for tomorrow, for definitive neutralization, to a suitable area.
To guarantee an adequate security framework for the intervention, the local municipal administration has established, with a special ordinance, the interruption of the local road network. Thanks to the construction of a special protection structure, which consists of a barricade and underground trenching with full coverage, designed and built entirely by the Army and approved by the Parma Explosive Research Institute, it has been possible to contain the clearing area only 270 meters minimizing the risks and discomfort for the population that would have led to the total closure of the A3 motorway.
