The Army bomb squad intervenes to defuse two bombs from the Second World War

On Sunday 22 October 2023, the bomb squad of the Italian Army, under the 10th sapper engineering regiment of Cremona and the railway engineering regiment of Bologna, carried out two complex reclamation activities in the Brescia and Bologna areas, for the neutralization of two bombs dating back to the Second World War.

The war remnants were found in a good state of preservation. The first during the systematic reclamation works of the goods yard in the municipality of Brescia and the second in a construction site that is carrying out safety work in some areas damaged following the floods that hit Emilia Romagna.

In the days following the discovery of the devices, following reconnaissance and assessments by the Army bomb squad, the military created temporary protection structures in order to mitigate the effects of any accidental detonations.

In particular, in close coordination with the local Prefectures, in order to guarantee an adequate safety framework during the removal operations of the trigger systems, traffic on the Milan - Venice high-speed railway line and the Direttissima respectively were banned. on the Bologna - Florence route.

The bomb squad teams of the Italian Army intervene daily in occasional clean-up activities throughout the national territory.
