A clean-up operation was carried out by the bomb technicians of the 6 ° pioneering genius regiment of Rome. The device was found at a construction site in Albano Laziale, in the Cecchina area.

The eviction activity, coordinated by the prefecture of Rome, ended at 10: 00 and involved the evacuation of around 3500 people residing within 400 meters from the place where the bomb was found.

After the evacuation operation of the residents began, on the part of the bomb squad, the actual intervention to deactivate the bomb was divided into two phases; one before removing the fuses, which was followed by that of safe transport for the subsequent blasting in a quarry at Ciampino. The operations ended at 15: 00.

During the morning there was also the reclamation of an airplane bomb dating back to the Second World War found a few days ago in Calata Bettolo, near the port of Genoa by the bomb squads of the 32 ° sapper engineering regiment of Turin. The bomb, a US AN-M64 A1 weighing 226 kilograms, 124 of which of explosives, was of the same type as the one found and neutralized in Lazio. This time, however, the operations were complicated by the impossibility of removing the rear fuze, which was damaged and deteriorated by time. The bomb squads then removed the front activation device, cut the bomb and burned the contents.

All phases were performed at a safe distance, using remote-controlled instruments. The discomforts for the Ligurian capital were however meager, thanks to the construction of a work to contain the shock wave and the splinters which made it possible to reduce the area considered dangerous to 300 meters. The blasting, which took place late in the morning, allowed the return to normality already from the 13: 00, without any inconvenience to city traffic and rail transport.

In Sant Angelo dei Lombardi (Avellino) an English-made aircraft bomb was found. The defusing activity was carried out in synergy with the prefecture of Avellino.
The operation was conducted by a group of army bomb squads, specializing in the deactivation of regulatory and circumstantial explosive devices, which removed the activation device and transferred the war device to the Cipriano quarry, where it was neutralized. The intervention lasted about 4 hours.
