Genoa Cavalleria celebrates 144 share of 14-16 September 1916

18/09/14

Those were the days of the 7ma battle of the Isonzo, the hours when Marshal Cadorna inaugurated the tactic of "energetic pushbacks" to force the enemy blockade on the terrible stony rocks of the Carso bitterly and poetically told by Ungaretti. In those places, among those warriors, the Genoa Cavalleria regiment and its heroic dragons are anchored in the folds of history.

The mounted unit, in those agitated days of the 1916, on foot and inserted into the Cremona brigade, fulfilled the same tasks as the infantry in the context of a dual-role ante litteram.

And yet those soldiers on horseback had to be particularly valiant and capable, so valiant that the commander of the Cremona decided to employ them in the center of the brigade device so that they could conduct a linear maneuver based on the collision and the mass.

There was to conquer the Austro-Hungarian 144 observatory, there was to prevent the fire of the opposing artillery, the objective could not in any way fail.

The heroic deeds of individuals and the entire unit were awarded for success and the silver medal for military valor at Standardo, Genoa had fulfilled its task.

Today as then the 4 ° Genoa Cavalleria regiment fulfills its institutional duties with discipline and honor in a certainly different context than 98 years ago, with a world that has radically changed, but what remains intact and immutable is the spirit of the dragons, their wealth of values, the undisputed attachment to the Italian flag.

In continuity with these certainties, the day of the 16 in September saw, as every year, a representation of Genoa Cavalleria bring to the places of the historic battle to celebrate and honor those brothers in arms that, almost a century ago, gave their lives for his own country, those young people who, without ever asking for everything, offered themselves for the full fulfillment of national unity.
