Army protagonist in Bolivia

The major corporal, Marco Farina and Marco Majori, of the High Mountain Military Section of the Sports Activities Department of the Alpine Training Center, carried out the first ascent of a new route called "Italian Direction" on the wall in the 13 / 14-06 days south of the Illimani (Mt. 2015) in the Cordillera Real in Bolivia.

After a period of acclimatization in which they made the ascent of Huayna Potosì, the two Army soldiers left from La Paz the 12.06 and on the same day they installed their base camp at about 4800 Mt. in the area called "La Mina "at the base of the south face of the Illiman.

Leaving the field at 04.00 of 13 June, they reached the base of the wall in about 2 hours. A full day of climbing was necessary to overcome the challenging rock climbing sections and then bivouack in extreme conditions at 200 from the summit after crossing the great snow and ice slope.

The next morning, they completed the climb reaching the summit of the Illimani around 11.00.

In the evening, the Army mountain guides returned to the base camp after returning along the normal route on the north - west side of the mountain.

A great new task was accomplished by the guides of the High Mountain Military Section of the Italian Army, who arrived in La Paz yesterday afternoon.

The return to Italy in Aosta is scheduled for the two soldiers is scheduled for the end of June.
