The "Taurinense" Alpine Brigade concluded, at the Monte Romano training area, the "LARAN 2023" exercise which saw over 370 men and women of the Alpine troops employed, with the aim of consolidating the operational capabilities necessary for the next deployment in the Lebanese theater of operations, in the context of the operation of peacekeeping under the aegis of the United Nations called UNIFIL “Leonte XXXV”.

The first phase, carried out at the tactical training center (CAT), immersed exercised units in an operational environment that replicated the geometry and conditions of the Lebanese theater of operations. The integrated system for land training (SIAT) – the latest generation simulation platform based on sensors mounted on personnel and vehicles, laser emitters, geolocators and data management software – gave extreme realism to the training conducted in the mode with opposing forces.

In the next phase, a series of fire activities took place with different calibers and weapon systems, in a day and night environment.

During the exercise, a visit was held by the commander of the Alpine troops, general of the army corps Ignazio Gamba, and the commander of the Alpine brigade Taurinense, Brigadier General Enrico Fontana, who were able to verify the training level of the units exercised.

The “LARAN 2023” exercise represented a fundamental stage in the process of preparing forces for the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon. The Alpine Brigade Taurinense is training in awareness of the importance and relevance of the United Nations mission, also in light of the recent developments that have affected the Middle Eastern area.
