Yesterday afternoon an AB 412 helicopter of the 2nd Army Aviation Regiment took off from Lamezia Terme directed to the hamlet of Polsi in the municipality of San Luca (RC) to put out a huge fire that broke out in the morning.
The Army helicopter operated on the fire for over an hour with 2 sorties and 6 drops of fresh water recovered in the Menta dam, near Gambarie (RC).
The affected area is huge, the flames have attacked about two kilometers of land on several fronts and threaten the ancient forests of the Aspromonte. The Army participates with the other Armed Forces in the Forest Firefighting Campaign of Defense. A collaboration that has already been in place for years with the National Corps of Firefighters and Civil Protection (PROCIV) to make the fight against forest fires more effective and incisive.
