On Sunday 8 may pv the bomb disposal of the Army of the Railway Engineer Regiment of Castel Maggiore (BO), at the request of the Prefecture of Bologna, will carry out the disarming of two weapons of war of the Second World War found inside a construction site of Italian Railway Network (RFI).

For this operation, from 07.45, to protect public safety, more than 2500 residents will be evacuated in the areas adjacent to the place of discovery. Furthermore, from 08.00 to 11.00, there will be the interruption of the Bologna-Florence high-speed railway line and the ordinary Bologna-Prato railway line in both directions, as well as the air ban at the 1292 meters vertical safety distances and some municipal roads near the area where the bombs were found.

The bombs, two airplane bombs equipped with a double spool weighing 250 pounds (equal to 105 kg) of American manufacture, were found in very poor condition but still active and functioning. The Army bomb squads will provide for the extremely delicate operation of removing the fuses on the spot and then transporting the devices, for the final operations of destruction, to the "I Laghi" quarry, in the Osteriola area, identified as a suitable and safe area.

The experience of the specialists of the Castel Maggiore Army (Bologna) is well attested by the over 50 interventions already carried out, during the 2016, in its area of competence (Marche Region, provinces of Bologna, Prato, Florence and Arezzo).

The Army, thanks to the "dual-use" connotation of the departments of the Corps of genius, in addition to its operational use in international missions, is able to intervene at any time, throughout the Italian territory in support of the national community, in interventions of public utility. Over the past year, more than 2600 interventions have been carried out.
