Tomorrow reclamation in Milan of a bomb of the Second World War

Tomorrow the Army, at the request of the prefecture of Milan, will remove and neutralize the German-made aircraft bomb weighing 500 kg, SC 500 series III L2, containing 220 kg of explosives found following the lowering of the river Ticino last 01 August, in Bosco di Vedro, in the municipality of Turbigo (MI).

The reclamation of the bomb will be conducted by the bomb technicians of the 10 ° regimental genius regiment of Cremona.

The activity will start at 04.30 with the evacuation of approximately 200 people residing within 1000 mt. from the place where the bomb was found.

At 05.30 we will proceed with the transfer of the bomb from the recovery point, a sediment in the middle of the river, to the nearby shore in the area called "ex lido". The bomb will then be transported to a quarry (security zone) in the municipality of Nosate (MI) where it will be made to shine in the afternoon.

During the bomb clean-up operations, the airspace of Malpensa international airport will be banned from 05: 30 to 07: 30 and from 17: 00 to 18: 00 (time of expected completion of blasting operations) as established by ordinance of the Prefecture of Milan.

The 10 ° regimental genius regiment of Cremona is one of the 12 units of the Army responsible for the remediation of war surpluses on the whole national territory. In particular, in the 2014 the regiment carried out 138 interventions, reclaiming 2522 bombs of which 613 airplane bombs.

The Armed Forces overall in the last 10 years has cleared over 30.000 ordnance.
