The 73th anniversary of the battle of the same name was fought this morning at the military memorial of Mignano Montelungo, fought during the Second World War, for which the city was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor and Gold Medal for Civil Merit.
The Undersecretary of State for Defense, honorable Domenico Rossi, after paying tribute to the fallen, in his speech recalled the value and courage of the military of that time and the servicemen, united by a common element: the love for the tricolor .
He added that "the sacrifice of fallen soldiers in this bloody battle constitutes a precious legacy and an example to which we must inspire", to conclude by stressing that "in times of crisis, when doubts arise about the route to follow, the direction to take , it is the duty of all of us to look at the heroes of Montelungo and at the values interpreted by all our men and women who wear the uniform and who honor the tricolor that rises on the flagpole every morning ".
The event was attended by the Army Chief of Staff, Army Corps General Danilo Errico, the Mayor of Mignano Montelungo, Antonio Verdone, the President of theNational Combatants Association of the Liberation War, Ambassador Cortese de Bosis, the prefect of Caserta, Arturo De Felice and the military attachés of friendly and allied countries.
Significant was the presence of hundreds of people who gathered today, in an always special atmosphere, which is renewed every year, at the Military Memorial of Mignano Montelungo to pay homage to the fallen and to show closeness to the Armed Forces with a long applause at the end. of the celebration.
