It took place these days at the North Interregional Defense Forces Command of Padua (COMFODI - NORD), a coordination meeting between the Swiss delegation and representatives of the Italian Army aimed at planning some aspects related to the “Odescalchi” exercise that will take place in June 2016.
This exercise event aims to implement cooperation with the Swiss Confederation and the Italian Republic, in the field of risk prevention in the event of a calamitous event, through the use of the respective civil and military structures in the territory, in compliance with national regulations which govern the procedures for use.
The envisaged scenario will see the occurrence of a train accident along the Como - Chiasso line near Monte Olimpino and the consequent intervention of the civil and military structures delegated to this type of cross-border catastrophe.
In this context, the Army, in competition with the civil protection system, will deploy specialist structures including the rates of the Bologna railway genius regiment, the 2 brigade brigade regiment of Piacenza, the 7 ° Civitavecchia NBC defense regiment, helicopter of the Army Aviation, as well as of the field hospital of the 1 maneuvering regiment of Rivoli (TO), carrying out the activities jointly with the civil protection and the Swiss military forces.
The "dual use" capacity of the Armed Forces will be tested, which allows it to operate abroad when employed in peace stabilization operations in the many crisis areas of the planet and, in the national territory, to support the community.
The works were developed over three working days (24 - 26 February US) and involved the operational, logistical, public information and ceremonial aspects related to the exercise.
