The 1st 2024 course for the achievement of the SERE "Charlie" qualification for AVES personnel and paratroopers of the "Savoia Cavalleria" regiment (3rd) has concluded, held at the Army aviation training center (CAAE) .

The “Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape” courses are divided into three levels: “Alpha” (theoretical), “Bravo” (standard) and “Charlie” (advanced). These modules allow attendees to progressively acquire the knowledge and skills to survive in the conditions of isolation that may occur in the Operational Theatre.

During the theoretical training phase of SERE “Charlie”, the attendees first explored topics related in particular to the Personnel Recovery (PR) such as the survival of isolated personnel, behavior in the event of capture, evasion, escape and the main ones technical-tactical procedures adopted within NATO.

The training course then continued with a series of preparatory activities for the final phase of the course, characterized by a continuous week-long exercise, during which the participants simulated an escape from hostile territory, in conditions of scarcity of food and water and covering several tens of kilometers. During the movement, capture and detention activities were simulated, these operations managed by highly specialized personnel and constantly monitored by a health team and a psychologist officer.

The Army aviation training centre, as well as a flight school in which pilots, specialists and crews of the Armed Forces specialize, is an inter-force and international training center for SERE, airport firefighting and Forward Medevac.
