The sober and heartfelt ceremony, presided over by the commander of the 186 regiment, paratroopers, Colonel Roberto Trubiani, was attended by the relatives of the fallen and some paratroopers on leave who wanted to testify once again the affection towards the regiment that they served for long years, remembering, moreover, love and strict respect for those children of the Thunderbolt who now rest in a corner of the sky.
The brief and moving ceremony began inside the Uopini cemetery, in front of the tomb of Captain Antonio Fortunato, where some paratroopers of the regiment lit a torch.
This is an ideal gesture, signifying the memory and the union of fallen paratroopers who rest in different places. Following five paratroopers, from the cemetery of Uopini, running and with the torch in hand, they crossed a section of the city of Siena and reached the square of the Bandini barracks.
Around the 10.00, a deployed regiment awaited and accepted the torch, the team of paratroopers took the monument to the fallen to light a lamp that will burn for the whole day. Singing in unison "with death paro a paro" and the deposition of flowers by family members have enhanced a truly moving moment. The torch, throughout the itinerary, was preceded by a nucleus of the municipal police to ensure the viability.
From the brief but intense ceremony before the war memorial, the 186 regiment continued this day of remembrance with the celebration of Holy Mass.
"Today we remember how we now do from 2009 our fallen in Kabul, Antonio, Giandomenico, Matteo, Davide and with them we want to remember all the fallen under the flag of Folgore, from El Alamein to today ... I would have expected everything except being here in remember them, instead of having them here among us, of us, and continue to work together ... But things have unfortunately gone differently and now our duty is to continue to remember them and feel them present among us.I want to remember them always smiling, active, available and above all, serious professionals who have been an example to the last. This is what I think of them and I think I remember them well ". These are some of the words addressed to the relatives of the paratroopers fallen by Colonel Roberto Trubiani. Finally, he did not fail to thank their presence.
With their presence, the commander concluded, addressing the whole regiment, they honored and gave greater importance to the ceremony and to this day.
"It will be a duty of the regiment not to make you miss the affection, the closeness and the support you deserve. You are part of a large family, that of the paratroopers, of the 186 ° regiment and of the Folgore". This concludes with these words a serene day where intimately and with a sober ceremony, the 186 paratroopers surrounded by the affection of the relatives of the fallen wanted to remember, in front of their flag, a stretch of time studded with heroism and essential values written in that far 17 September 2009.
