Today, in the presence of Defense Minister Roberta Pinotti and Army Chief of Staff, Army Corps General Danilo Errico, the military ceremony for the return of the Italian contingent to the "Pinerolo" Brigade guide used in Lebanon in the UNIFIL operation.

General Errico, addressing the soldiers of the "Pinerolo" brigade, said "as a Soldier, as a Commander, as a Man and as a Father, I thank you because I am aware of the silent sacrifice required and of how vital it is for us soldiers to have the certainty of being able to count on a strong, secure and unconditional family support ".

The ceremony was an opportunity to retrace the six months of engagement of the "Pinerolo" Brigade in the Lebanese territory in a very sensitive period for the stabilization of the entire region; over 35.000 operational activities carried out between patrols, check points, observation and control posts, training activities also joint with the Lebanese Armed Forces and numerous projects carried out in the field of civil-military cooperation to improve the living conditions of the local population.

The "Pinerolo" Mechanized Brigade is one of the Great Units for "presence and surveillance" of the national territory, and has participated in recent operations both in the national and "out of area" areas, such as the one in the land of the cedars.

Established in 1821, he took part in the three wars of Independence, the great war, the East African campaign and the Second World War, during which he fought on the western front, in Albania and in Greece.

It has been involved in rescue operations for operations affected by public calamities, such as the Irpinia earthquake (1980), the earthquake of the Lower Molise (2002), the floods of the municipalities of Sarno, Siano and Quindici (1998) and " Montacuto "(from the 2010).

The soldiers of the Pinerolo Brigade contribute, from August 2008, to the Safe Roads operation that involves about 4800 Army troops all over the country with supervisory duties to "sensitive targets" in competition with the Police Forces.
