The large armored unit had left Friuli last April to take over, in Lebanon, the multinational command of the Sector West of UNIFIL, with the task of fulfilling the mandate established by the UN 1701 resolution, which foresees the monitoring of the cessation of the hostility between Lebanon and Israel, support for the Lebanese armed forces and assistance to the local population.
The ceremony which was attended by the main institutional authorities of the province and the representatives of the combat and weapons associations, in addition to the citizenship that has always been close to the colors of the "Ariete", were lined up with the departments that operated on the orders of the general of brigade Fabio Polli, that is the lance regiment of Novara (5 °), the 8 transport regiment, the command department and tactical supports "Ariete", and rates of 11 ° bersaglieri, 10 ° genius guastatori, 11 ° transmissions, Genoa and Piedmont Cavalry.
The commander of the terrestrial operational forces, in greeting the military in return, expressed appreciation for the excellent results achieved during the mission, made evident by the volume of operational activities conducted (almost 30.000 between patrols, checkpoints, observation and control posts and activities training) and the numerous projects carried out in the field of civil-military cooperation to improve the living conditions of the local population.
The success of the mission was for Ariete, the fourth experience in the Land of the Cedars in seven years, a further confirmation of the marked operativeness of the brigade and the high capacity of its staff to operate in crisis situations in international contexts .
