Centenary of the Transport and Materials Weapon

(To Army Majority State)
18/05/16

This morning at the Transport and Materials School Army, in the presence of the Army Chief of Staff, Army Corps General Danilo Errico, Army Logistic Commander, Army Corps General Adriano Vieceli and Major General Vincenzo Puri, Transport Commander and materials, the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Army Logistics Corps was celebrated.

During his speech, General Errico stated that "the Transport and Materials Weapon, even in the future, will be increasingly called upon to occupy a central place in the operations that see the armed force involved, aiming at a progressive integration between the maneuvering forces and units responsible for logistic support, in the name of modularity, flexibility and maximum projection capacity ”.

Today's recurrence is linked to battle of the highlands that in May 1916 allowed to arrest the Austro-Hungarian troops projected towards the Venetian plain in order to circumvent the Italian defensive device. The maneuver was successful also thanks to the contribution of the drivers, who were able to transfer thousands of soldiers and materials from the Isonzo front to the plateaus in a very short time.

The celebrations began with the deposition of a crown at the monument of the fallen soldiers in the presence of civil and military authorities.

Furthermore, vintage films showing the evolution of the vehicles and materials used by the Army in different historical periods were screened.
Today, the Weapons and Materials Weapon ensures support for armed force units on national soil and in foreign operating theaters, and also contributes in cases of public calamity to support the civilian population.
